Context

Are you a young Swiss professional interested in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Have you always wanted to obtain an insight into the work of UN organisations at field level, gain valuable work experience in international cooperation, and on top of that dive into a different culture?

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Human Security Division (HSD) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) are financing 20 positions for Swiss nationals within the UN Youth Volunteers (UNYV) Programme.

Selected volunteers will work in a priority country of SDC or HSD employed by a United Nations agency. The assignments will start in February / March 2021.

Description of Assignment (DoA)

The UNYV will assist in conducting field missions in order to gather relevant information and promote change and impact to improve the human rights situation in Colombia.

He / she will assist in receiving complaints and interviewing victims, witnesses of violations on human rights.

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative, the UNYV will assist in conducting research and analysis with respect to specific human rights and groups such as indigenous peoples and other ethnic groups.

Furthermore, he / she will contribute to and / or draft various reports, communications, briefing notes, statements or other products.

SDG 16 : Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

General requirements

University graduates may apply if they :

  • Are Swiss Nationals (C permit not included)
  • Are born on or after April 1, 1992
  • Have completed a Master’s degree (by mid October 2020)
  • Have more than three months and ideally one year of relevant work experience
  • Are proficient in English and have knowledge of two official Swiss languages. Other languages according to specific DoA
  • Have a demonstrated interest in questions related to international cooperation, development, human rights, peace promotion or humanitarian politics
  • Meet other specific requirements as defined in the DOA
  • Candidates are expected to be geographically mobile, able to adjust to difficult living conditions and accept substantial changes in their assignment description.

    Selection process

    Application deadline : 13 September 2020

    The entire recruitment process takes about four months. Interviews are carried out by cinfo and take place between 28 September and 07 October 2020.

    The final selection is done by the United Nations agencies based on cinfo's recommendation. Selected candidates will be informed by the end of November.
