The UNHCR Office in Cúcuta requires support in the area of Public Information for the conception, editing, design and production of audiovisual and printed pieces.

The objective of these materials is to promote the visual identification of the organization, make the implemented projects visible and provide information to the population of interest, including internally displaced persons and communities at risk of displacement, refugees, asylum seekers, stateless persons and persons at risk of being so, and in general all persons from other countries in Colombia in need of international protection.

The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) will support the implementation of a community-based approach in all planned interventions in UNHCR's strategy, while incorporating UNHCR's age, gender and diversity policy to ensure differential protection both for internally displaced persons as well as for refugees.

It is worth mentioning that national UNVs are considered an essential part of the workforce within the operation, and have tasks that are equally significant and important as those performed by regular UNHCR staff members.

During his assignment, the United Nations Volunteer would help implement UNHCR's strategy and better respond to the protection needs of internally displaced persons and refugees.

The same duty of care should be applied to UN volunteers as is provided to the host entity's staff. Host entity support for volunteers includes, but is not limited to :

  • Introductory briefings on the organization and context of the office related to security, emergency procedures, culturally appropriate practices and orientation to the local environment;
  • Administrative support upon arrival, including opening bank accounts, applications for residence permits and carrying out official processes required in host countries and entities;
  • Structured guidance, advice and coaching from a supervisor that includes a clear work plan and performance evaluation;
  • Access to office spaces, equipment, technological support and any other tool required to fulfill the objectives of the assignment, including the opening of an email address of the host entity.
  • Access to the knowledge, training and learning available from the host entity;
  • Inclusion of volunteers in procedures for emergency situations such as evacuations;
  • License management;
  • Travel expenses for official travel, when applicable;
  • Any change in the Assignment Description that occurs between the recruitment period and the start of the assignment or during the assignment must be formalized with the UN Volunteer Program.
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Under the direct supervision of the coordinator of the Interagency Coordination Unit of the UNHCR Sub-office in Cúcuta , the United Nations National University Volunteer will carry out the following tasks :

  • Provide technical support to team members in powerpoint presentations, infographics and information products so that they are consistent with the image of UNHCR and brand visibility guidelines (brandbook).
  • Provide technical support in the design and edition of printed and audiovisual products.
  • Management of public information archive (creation of folders, selection and storage of material for visibility)
  • Support in the organization of events, training, campaigns and internal information products.
  • Support in the opening and execution of production processes of visibility and information materials for the different points of attention of the sub-office, guaranteeing the coordination and monitoring of suppliers.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Any other activity that is required or assigned by the supervisor.
  • In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are urged to join the mandate of the UNV program within the framework of their assignment and to promote voluntary action through community integration in the development of their work.
  • As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate part of their working time to one of the following recommended activities :

  • Strengthen your knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading relevant UNV and external publications, as well as playing an active role in UNV activities (for example, events marking International Day of Human Rights). Volunteering);
  • Know and develop the traditional and / or local forms of volunteering in the host country;
  • Provide annual self-evaluation reports and at the end of the assignment on UNV actions, results and opportunities;
  • Contribute articles / critiques of your experiences in the field and submit them to headquarters for inclusion on the website, publications, brochures / newsletters, press releases, etc. of the UNV program;
  • Assist with the Mentoring Program for new UN Youth Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of the UNV Online Volunteering service or promote the use of the service to relevant local individuals and organizations when technically possible.
  • Expected results :

  • The UNHCR Sub-office in Cúcuta implements a communications strategy that makes UNHCR's action visible and prevents xenophobia, racism and discrimination.
  • UNHCR's public information products are aligned with the Agency's mandate and comply with international standards to make the image visible and raise awareness among the external public.
  • The service points of the UNHCR Sub-office in Cúcuta have a correct visibility arrangement and are equipped with information materials for the population of interest.

  • REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required Academic Level : Bachelor's Degree (Bachelor / Engineering / Etc.)
  • Degree as : Journalist, Social Communicator, Graphic Designer, Professional in International Relations, among others.
  • Required Experience : Six months of relevant work experience in the area of public information.
  • Computer skills : Excellent computer skills. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social networks, and others). Excellent handling of the Adobe suite for audiovisual design and editing.
  • Languages : Knowledge of English and practical knowledge of another UN language will be an advantage.
