The Engineering Director will own the engineering execution and operations of a solution level product, including the globally distributed development teams.
The Engineering Director will provide leadership and guidance in the areas of Career Development, Software Development, Testing and Operational Support activities.
The Engineering Director will interact with internal Alert Logic leaders and team members on a strategic level to drive initiatives that optimize and improve our service platform with constant focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
In collaboration with other teams and leaders, the Engineering Director will work towards continuous improvement of the Alert Logic customer experience and share responsibility for its success.
The Engineering Director will have general management responsibilities for the Cali Office, acting as the regional leader for the office.
The Engineering Director will lead by example with Alert Logic’s values in mind and will help drive people initiatives for all Cali employees including team members that are in other organizations.
Primary Responsibilities Engineering Director
Be accountable for the owned solution to the 3 stakeholders : Customers (SLA and SLO), Team (Performance, Motivation), and Owners (Efficiency, Cost Management)
Be accountable for the results of the team, measure individual and overall team performance, design strategies and processes to continually enhance team effectiveness
Define with the team and defend strategic metrics and KPI which capture the essence of the customer experience
Facilitate discussions around delivery and technical challenges and help the team make right choices based on objective performance indicators
Take ownership of Solution portfolio, participate in planning sessions and represent the team during the decision-making process, delivering opinions and impacts on both delivery and technical matters.
Using principles like Lean and MVP, work with Product Management to define the roadmap, and deadline commitments.
Motivate and influence employees to strive for a high level of alignment with our cultural values of : Customer Obsession, Design Thinking, Operational Excellence, First Team, and Ownership
Be responsible for all people actions including but not limited to hiring, developing, making merit recommendations, determining appropriate job levels, and managing performance related issues as they may arise.

Be a key stakeholder in the overall employee engagement level for the Cali office, coach, mentor and develop employees as needed.

15+ years of relevant experience managing multiple complex technical projects. 10+ years managing a large organization of people preferably for an R&D business unit.
Proven record of managing engineering teams supporting complex systems with very strict service level objectives (availability, scalability, 24 / 7, 365)
Proven ability to partner with Product organization regarding priority of market-driven verses engineering-driven requirements
Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain outstanding software engineers and managers
Demonstrated ability to manage project scope and deliver on time
Demonstrated ability to manage customer expectations (internal and external) regarding delivery and technical feasibility
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Applied experience in full development life cycle management; specifically, with an Agile methodology
Demonstrable knowledge of DevOps paradigm and software ownership principles along with strong desire to cultivate that knowledge
Understanding core principles of metric driven development and operational support, readiness to build effective teams and motivate them to achieve better results proven by objective measurements
Proven hands-on development experience in procedural, object or functional programming
A positive and inquisitive attitude which creates a safe environment for both peers and subordinates to share their most bold ideas.
Willingness to challenge existing thinking in a constructive way to improve the team and product

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience managing teams responsible for large scale, 24x7 distributed systems
High level understanding of security detection technologies such as IDS, IPS, WAF, Scanning, Log Collection, etc.
Experience delivering multi-tenant, or SaaS, applications or technology platforms
Hands-on experience with AWS / Azure IaaS solutions and tools
Ability to manage customer expectations through the prism of technical feasibility and appropriate delivery timeline accuracy
Experience with continuous integration, continuous deployment, and other dev-ops cultural aspects is highly desired
Master’s in Computer Science or Management of Information Systems, or related field required.
