The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

The UN-Habitat Communications internship is for 6 months.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 - 40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period

Under the direct supervision of the Administrative and Financial specialist) and the Coordinator for Andean Countries, the Intern will :

  • Give technical support in the following ways;
  • Support the HUB Coordinator and the Communications Analyst in the implementation of the projects of UN-Habitat Andean Countries HUB, in the tasks related to internal and external communication that are required, as well as in the planning of the strategic agenda, management of events and missions, development of work materials, preparation of documents, contact with media, and / or making notes and / or press events.
  • Support the conducting and implementation of the UN-Habitat Andean Countries HUB’s communication strategy considering UN Habitat’s global communications strategy, the strategic plan for UN-Habitat 2014-2019 and the recommendations of other communication strategies.
  • Support in the completion of journalistic reports on online and offline platforms on topics related to UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries with the purpose to incorporate the message and the topics of the campaign into all events and relevant products.
  • Assist the coordinator of the UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries and the Communications Analyst on actions that involve the dissemination of the management of the Coordinator.
  • Develop different forms of products (the web, on CD, social media platforms, advertising promotion, etc. for print and broadcast media, etc.
  • to disseminate the results of UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries to different target audiences.

  • Prepare a wide range of communication products in support of the main initiatives.
  • Assess the results and the impact of communication activities; Reports and trends related to UN.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements :

  • a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD. or equivalent

    Be computer literate in standard software applications.

  • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

  • Preferred Area of Studies;
  • Social Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, and / or related areas.

    Experience in the fields of relationship with media, social networks, design, and development of external and internal communication strategies is desirable.

    Experience in organizing events and previous experience with the United Nations or other International Organizations will increase the score.

    Work Experience

    No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in Spanish and English is required.

    United Nations Considerations
